Nonetheless, the team went on to scale the points table on the last day of the group stage to book a semi final date with New Zealand. The Black Caps, too, were unbeaten for the better part of the first half, only to lose momentum in the latter stages of the competition. In fact, from the top spot in the table, NZ fell to the fourth spot, just about making it to the last four with a run-rate superior than Pakistan.

IND vs NZ Dream11 Prediction
When Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson step on the green grass of Old Trafford, it won’t be surprising if they have a sense of deja vu, a been-there-done-that feeling. And why not? Afterall, they are again representing their respective teams as the captains in the World Cup semi finals. Albeit this time, it will not a contest between the teenagers like it was 11 years ago in the 2008 ICC U-19 World Cup, but a battle of adults with a lot more at stake. The two teams journey to the semi finals have been quite different though.
The Men in Blue, on one hand have been arguably the most dominant forces in the competition so far. And also the most convincing. Unlike the previous editions, the Indian team is now looking to be a more balanced side, which is not at all surprising since the World’s best ODI batsman, pacer, and spinner all donning the famous Blue colours. When the batting order fails in its job, the bowlers take charge of the game. When the bowlers have a bad day (which really is a rare sight these days), the batsmen are ready at their duties. This synergy has been crucial to the team’s success so far.
In the batting department, Rohit Sharma has been singlehandedly carrying the team’s runs load, and breaking numerous records in the process. At times, he seems to eat centuries for his lunch! Virat Kohli has been a regular performer as well. The Indian skipper has set such high benchmark for himself that anything less than a century seems like a bad day.

KL Rahul has mostly been solid in his role as an opener while Rishabh Pant has grown in maturity over the past few games. Hardik Pandya is the team’s go to man when it comes to quick runs while the same cannot be said about MS Dhoni. He is scoring runs, but at alarmingly lower strike-rate especially when you consider his role towards the end of the innings. Furthermore, India’s No.7 still remains a mystery.
Bowlers have really been a revelation this year for India. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah (17 wickets) and Mohammad Shami (14) have taking batsmen for a ride, while Yuzvendra Chahal and Hardik Pandya have put a strong case forward. Considering New Zealand’s fragile batting lineup, the bowlers would have a big role to play on Tuesday.
New Zealand started off their World Cup campaign stylishly, rooting in the first place for quite some time. But their performances faded as the team faced sterner opposition. The Kiwis are not in the best shape entering the Semi Finals, having lost three games on the trot, including a 119-run beating at the hands of England. It, thus, goes without saying that India are the firm favourites entering the Semi Finals.
However, it must not be forgotten that the Black Caps are very much capable of staging an unlikely surprise. The team, placed third in ICC’s ODI rankings, possess a lethal pace attack in Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult, and James Neesham that can wreck havoc on their day.
Predicted Winner: India
Although Old Trafford ground had a dubiously low-scoring surface, it has been a far different story in the World Cup this year with an average score of 323 scored in the first innings. Thus, if India bats first, expect no less than 300 runs. Moreover, New Zealand have shown their vulnerabilities when it comes to chasing big totals, and the Indian bowlers will no doubt be expected to scalp multiple wickets in the second innings. Choosing 5 batsmen and four bowlers would not be a bad idea then.
However, if Zew Zealand bat first, a score between 230 to 280 can be expected (NZ have not crossed 300 even once this season). In that case, increase the number of New Zealand batsman by one. Among bowlers, Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santner are recommended.
